Lucarelli & Castaldi Named Title Sponsor of Prospect Park Series

The Kissena Cycling Club is pleased to announce the Law Firm of Lucarelli & Castaldi has been named the title sponsor of the 2010 Prospect Park Race Series. The Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup combines the seven Prospect Park races into an overall competition for the Pro/1-2-3, Category 4 and Category 5 categories.

"We're excited to have Lucarelli & Castaldi as the title sponsor" said Charlie Issendorf, Kissena Cycling Club Race Director. "Lucarelli & Castaldi sponsored the KOM Competition at last year's race series and stepped up to become the title sponsor for 2010. As always, I encourage all our racers to support the companies that support the sport".

The Laura Van Guilder Supporters Club is at it again. Another race for her to hone her skills and help pay for her trip to the Cyclocross Worlds. www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=9848 She probably needs to be thrown in to a huge field of aggressive racers who aren't going to give her an inch of room to get ready for worlds. If you can get there easily, seems like a reason to go. But, if it takes effort, like renting a car, or filling a whole tank of gas, it might be better just to donate that money straightaway.

Need Inspiration? Start figuring your Jens Factor

The Cyclocosm site has an amusing graph that allows you to determine the "Jens Factor" of every ride. Named in honor of Jens Voigt, the X-axis is temperature and the Y-axis wind speed. by inputting your ride temp and the wind speed, you can see your Jens factor. We like it. The problem for us is the chart needs to be a bit more sophisticated. LVG CX World's Fund

One of the "secrets" of USA Cycling is that they generally do not cover travel expenses to the world cyclocross championships for the riders they select (come to think of it, they might not cover expenses to the road world's, either). Laura Van Gilder was selected to go to the cx worlds for the second time. once again, she's expected to pay her own way. Some of Laura's friends have created a fund-raising page on BikeReg. Undoubtedly many of you know/have heard that Laura Van Gilder (Cresco, PA ^ C3-Sollay/Athletes Serving Athletes) has been nominated to the US Elite Women's squad for the 2010 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Tabor, Czech Republic, Jan. 30-31. www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=4586 What we're sure a lot don't know is that financing the trip to Worlds is the athlete's responsibility. And a trip to the Czech Republic to represent your country at the absolute pinnacle of your sport is not the most OEinexpensive, endeavor.
